DIGITAL LITERACY Dissertation Overview
For my dissertation, I researched digital literacy strategies, technologies, and perceptions of K-12 educators across the state of Michigan. With the Common Core State Curriculum requiring all educators to teach reading and writing, literacy must become digital to keep pace with a technology-centered society. This research reinforced the thoughts that while educators strongly recognize the importance of technology with learning, many need more guidance and support.
As part of my dissertation, I also co-wrote the Digital Literacy entry for Oxford Bibliographies, focusing on the history of digital literacy, K-12 education, underrepresented learners and globalized contexts, and out-of-school settings. This research helped give me a better sense of the direction technology has taken with education and where it needs to lead. Technology plays an impact on our daily lives, and I want to help it become a seamless part of learning and our educational leaders.

During my capstone course for my Master of Arts in Instructions Technology at Saginaw Valley State University, I researched how technology impacted middle school science. I centered my research on LEGO robotics programs, student response clickers, and basic technology practices.
